Scientific Databases

Biom includes connectors to four major public scientific data repositories. You can browse, search, and mount datasets directly into your viewer — no download required.

DANDI Archive

DANDI is a public archive for neurophysiology and behavioral data.
  • Search neurophysiology and behavioral datasets
  • Mount NWB files via HTTP range streaming (no full download needed)
  • Mount OME-Zarr and LINDI files
  • Pagination — cursor-based, 25 results per page
  • Save to Biom Drive — download datasets for offline access
  • Signed URLs — 6-hour TTL for streaming access

IDR (Image Data Resource)

IDR is a repository of reference microscopy datasets.
  • Browse curated microscopy datasets
  • Mount OME-Zarr from UK1S3 server
  • Metadata display — SizeX/Y/Z/C/T, pixel type
  • Thumbnail previews in search results
  • Conversion option — convert to OME-TIFF if Zarr is unavailable

Allen Brain Cell Atlas

The Allen Brain Atlas provides reference brain datasets. Curated datasets include:
DatasetDescription
ABC Atlas WMB (10Xv2)Whole Mouse Brain, 10X Genomics v2
ABC Atlas WMB (10Xv3 Multiome)Whole Mouse Brain, 10X Genomics v3 Multiome
MERFISH Whole Mouse BrainSpatially resolved transcriptomics
Allen CCFv3 Reference Atlas3D volumetric atlas, 10um resolution
Allen Mouse Brain ConnectivityConnectome data
Projection DensityProjection density maps
Datasets are accessed via direct S3 URLs and loaded as Zarr or Neuroglancer Precomputed tiles.

AWS Open Data

Biom includes connectors to select AWS Open Data datasets:

Mount by URL

You can mount any dataset by providing a direct URL:
  • Zarr — any HTTP-accessible Zarr store
  • NWB — any HTTP-accessible NWB file
  • Neuroglancer Precomputed — any Neuroglancer-compatible tile source
Simply paste the URL into the database mount dialog and Biom will auto-detect the format.

Drag and drop

You can drag dataset entries from the database browser directly onto a pane to load them instantly. This works across all four database connectors.
